Consumer Energy Surveys

Research and open surveys on how Nigerian households and businesses choose, finance, and live with distributed energy systems.

1 Introduction

CADEF's Renew Energy Naija programme runs consumer and vendor surveys to understand how Nigerians adopt solar and other distributed energy resources (DER). Findings guide advocacy, vendor standards, and consumer protection tools. This page summarises active surveys, published results, and how your responses are used.

2 Survey Categories

We run several types of surveys. Each focuses on a different part of the DER customer journey.

3 How Survey Data Is Used

Responses help CADEF improve the DER marketplace for consumers and vendors. We use survey data to:

  • Publish Insights: Share anonymised findings, charts, and briefs that anyone can cite.
  • Improve Matching: Refine how consumers are matched with verified vendors and financing options.
  • Strengthen Vendors: Highlight service gaps and reward vendors who deliver strong after-sales support.
  • Inform Advocacy: Support policy recommendations with real consumer evidence.

4 Privacy & Sharing

We treat survey responses with care. Unless you choose otherwise:

  • Anonymised Reporting: Published results use aggregated data. Individual respondents are not named.
  • No Sale of Data: We do not sell survey responses to third parties.
  • Optional Follow-up: If you leave contact details, we may invite you to a follow-up interview or related survey.

5 Data Security

Survey submissions are stored in secured systems with restricted staff access. Export files used for analysis are handled only by authorised CADEF researchers and partners under confidentiality agreements.

6 Your Rights as a Respondent

Participation is voluntary. You may:

  • Skip Questions: Leave any question blank if you prefer not to answer.
  • Withdraw: Stop the survey at any time without penalty.

By submitting a survey, you consent to CADEF using anonymised results for research, advocacy, and public education as described on this page.
